
Verity And Osuegbu Named September Student-Athletes Of The Month

GREENVILLE, N.C. – Junior placekicker and punter Jake Verity of the football team, as well as senior middle blocker Toya Osuegbu of the volleyball program, have been named the student-athletes of the month following an outstanding September athletically.

Verity, who was named to the 2019 Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award Watch List, connected on eight of 10 field goal attempts during the month and averaged 64.3 yards per kickoff with 13 touchbacks. He was selected the American Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week Sept. 23 after accounting for 13 of ECU's 19 points (4-of-5 FGs, 1-of-1 PAT) in a 19-7 win over William & Mary. Verity's four field goal conversions in the contest matched a career-high (BYU, 2017) and also tied a school single-game record. He currently leads the American Conference in field goals made (10), field goals made per game (two) and field goal percentage (76.9) while ranking second in scoring average (8.2 points per game).

Osuegbu helped lead the volleyball team to its best start in program history (12-1) during September. She set the single-match record for hitting percentage against N.C. Central, recording 10 kills and no errors in 12 attempts to finish at .833. Osuegbu was a force at the net in the Pirates' five-set win at NC State, compiling nine total blocks. She is now just 10 blocks away from moving onto the ECU career top 10 list.
