Taylor Named The American Golfer-Of-The-Month

GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina senior Blake Taylor has been named the American Athletic Conference Golfer-of-the-Month for September, becoming the third player in school history to receive the monthly award and first since 2016.
Taylor, a two-time all-conference selection from Atkinson, N.C., finished third at the Old Town Club Collegiate in a field that included seven of the top 40 players in the nation, placing ahead of five of them. He carded a three round total of 11-under-par 199 to become the second player to post a 54-hole score under 200 (63-67-69).
In the opening round, he shot an ECU single round record 63, breaking the record of 64 shared by three players.
Taylor opened his senior campaign with a sixth-place finish at the Island Resort Collegiate in Upper Michigan, helping the Pirates capture third-place. He tied for sixth with a 3-under-par 213 (72-69-72) and followed with a 12th-place performance at the Rod Myers Invitational with a 54-hole total of 2-under-par 214 (72-67-75) two weeks later.
Three tournaments into the season Taylor owns a 69.56 strokes per round average with two top 10 finishes, shooting par or better in eight of nine rounds played.
"What a fantastic honor for Blake," ECU Head Coach Andrew Sapp said. "Well deserved as he has gotten off to a wonderful start this fall. We are proud of Blake and excited to see him keep up his great play."
Taylor and his ECU teammates will return to the links Oct. 11-13 at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate in Johnson City.
