East Carolina Gears Up For Paul Short Run

GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina cross country program continues its 2019 campaign Saturday, traveling to Pennsylvania for the Paul Short Run on the campus of Lehigh University.

This years, the Paul Short Run will feature approximately 6,000 student-athletes from 450 colleges or high schools. The event will feature 14 races (six college, six high school and two open races) throughout the day.

Last season, then senior Grace Sullivan placed seventh overall, leading the women's team to a 28th-place finish. Her 6K time of 20:46 was the third fastest in school history. The men were 26th in last year's 8K race.

The Pirates' most recent meet was the Navy Invitational where the women won the team title and the men took second. ECU turned in the four fastest individual women's times with senior Nuria Tillo-Prats winning the 6K in a time of 22:21.10. Freshman Laura Green was second (22:38.44) followed by sophomore Abby Yourkavitch (22:44.69) and freshman Jenna Strange (22:55.60).

On the men's side, junior Josh Spare was the top Pirate finisher as he crossed the line in an 8K time of 25:30.78. Freshman Chase Osborne came in seventh (25:46.77) and sophomore Ethan Hageman was eighth (25:48.63) to round out East Carolina''s top-10 performers.

Following the Paul Short Run, ECU will prepare for its lone home meet of the season – the Pirate Invitational at Overton's Lake Kristi on Oct. 18.
