
ECU Sweeps The American Weekly Men's Swimming And Diving Awards

GREENVILLE, N.C. – ECU men's swimming and diving swept the initial 2019-20 American Athletic Conference weekly awards as sophomore swimmer Lyubomir Epitropov and freshman diver Roy Romero were named Swimmer and Diver-of-the-Week, respectively.

Epitropov, a native of Bulgaria, collected a pair of wins in the Pirates' dual meet against North Carolina on Saturday, touching first in the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke. He edged out UNC's Valdas Abaliksta by 0.09 seconds in the 100 breaststroke with a season-best time of 55.35. He later captured first-place in the 200 breaststroke by a more comfortable margin of 2.37 seconds with a mark of 1:59.78.

Epitropov also swam the second leg of the 200-yard medley relay to help the Pirates to a second-place finish.

It is the second weekly accolade of his career.

Romero claimed first-place on the one-meter diving board with a score of 323.48, 30.53 points ahead of the runner-up Andrew Owsiany of North Carolina. Romero finished second behind Owsiany in the three-meter diving competition.

The Pirates return to action Saturday, Oct. 12, against William and Mary. The meet is schedule to begin at 1 p.m. inside Minges Natatorium.
