GREENVILLE, N.C. – After snapping a five game losing streak, the ECU women's basketball team will take on No. 5 UConn on Wednesday night inside the XL Center in Hartford, Conn.

ECU (11-10, 2-6 AAC) used a balanced scoring effort to top Tulane 63-61 last Saturday, ensuring the Pirates finish with a winning home record for the 33rd time in 43 seasons. For just the second time this season, neither of ECU's leading scorers, Lashonda Monk and Raven Johnson, reached double figures in scoring, but four other Pirates did. Alex Frazier led the way with a career-high 19 points, while Ariyana Williams opened the four game with four straight threes on the way to 13 points. Salita Greene just missed out on a double-double, finishing with 12 points and nine rebounds and Destiny Campbell scored 10 points as well.

ECU continues to lead the conference in steals, although the Pirates only came up with five against Tulane. ECU averages 11.5 steals per game, including 4.0 per game by Monk, which also leads the league. Monk is fifth in the nation in steals per game and her 79 steals rank her fourth on the ECU single-season top-10, with eight games left in the regular season. ECU has been buoyed by the uptick in scoring from senior guard Alex Frazier. After averaging just 4.9 points in nonconference action, Frazier has averaged 11.1 during AAC games, trailing only Monk's 14.1 for the team lead.

UConn (19-2, 8-0 AAC) has been ranked in the top five in the country for the entirety of the season and is the last undefeated team in American games. The Huskies have been dominant in conference, outscoring teams by 28.8 points per game and lead the league in scoring offense (80.5) and scoring defense (54.7). Napheesa Collier leads the American in scoring (18.8 ppg) and is second in rebounding (10.0 rpg) while Katie Lou Samuelson is third in the league in scoring (18.3 ppg).

Like the other 11 American squads, ECU has been unable to top the Huskies since joining the American in 2014-15. The Pirates are 0-9 against UConn, with the last loss coming in Greenville on Jan. 3, 2018. UConn will be the first ranked opponent for ECU this season and the first since falling to No. 23 USF on Jan. 7, 2018. The last win over a ranked opponent for ECU was when the Pirates topped No. 25 South Florida 65-64 on Feb. 14, 2015.
