
Santos Concludes Action At NCAA Championships

AUSTIN, Texas. – ECU junior Gustavo Santos competed in two events to represent The American at the 2019 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center from March 27-30.

Santos competed in the 100 butterfly and 50 freestyle. Santos finished 37th in the 100 fly with his time of 46.41 seconds Friday and placed 45th in the 50 free after clocking 20.18 seconds Thursday. Â

Santos, The American's record-holder in the 100 butterfly, clocked 45.83 seconds at the Tar Heel Last Chance Meet on March 10 to punch his ticket to the NCAA Championships. He swam the 100 fly in 45.86 seconds in the preliminary round of The American's championships to best his conference record set in this event a year ago. He won his third-straight American title in the 100 fly after recording 46.01 seconds in the finals. Santos was seeded 29th in the NCAA Championships.

Santos also swam the second-fastest 50 freestyle in The American this season. He was the conference's runner-up in the 50 free after clocking a B-Cut time of 19.85 seconds. He was seeded at No. 49 in this event.

A total of 270 participants (235 swimmers and 35 divers) competed in the NCAA Championships. Swimmers qualified for the championships by meeting the established minimum time for the events in which they entered. California won this year's national title with 560 points.
