ECU Finishes 10th At Rain-Shortened Stitch Intercollegiate
April 13, 2019 | Men's Golf
CARY, N.C. --- The ECU men's golf team finished 10th overall, as the final round of competition at the Stitch Intercollegiate was canceled due to inclement weather Saturday at MacGregor Downs Country Club.
The Pirates shot 16-over-par 592 (295-297) during the rain-shortened tournament, which was their final event before the American Athletic Conference Championship April 21-23 at Innisbrook Resort in Palm Harbor, Fla.
"You always hate to lose rounds due to weather because you want to compete for 54 holes," ECU Head Coach Andrew Sapp said. "We only had three rounds of par or better out of 10 rounds, so hopefully this is a bit of a wake-up call as we head into the conference championship next weekend. We have six days to prepare and get everyone to play well at the same time down at Innisbrook."
A.J. Beechler (76-70) and Stephen Carroll (72-74) led the Pirates with final scores of 2-over-par 146 to tie for 29th. Blake Taylor carded a 7-over-par 149 (70-79), while Patrick Stephenson fired a 9-over-par 151 (77-74) and Tim Bunten shot 12-over-par 156 (77-79). Â Â
NC State' Stephen Franken a playoff hole to capture medalist honors with Wake Forest capturing the team title with a total of 14-under-par 562 (285-277).
