Providence, R.I. – After helping the Pirates to one of the best seasons in program history, Lisa Hofbauer of the ECU women's tennis team was named to the American Athletic Conference All-Conference Team, as announced by league officials on Thursday.
Â
"This is a very well deserved honor for Lisa," said head coach Tom Morris. "She had a remarkable season this year, playing at an extremely  high level each and every match at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles. This recognition is a tribute to the hard work and dedication which embodies Lisa Hofbauer. She is a great representative of our program, and we are very proud of her!"
Â
Hofbauer played on the top court in both singles and doubles. The junior from Birkfeld, Austria went 17-12 overall in singles matches and 14-4 during dual matches. Hofbauer provided the clinching point on four occasions, most memorably a come-from-behind three-set victory against Cincinnati that clinched a 4-3 win for the Pirates.
Â
In doubles, Hofbauer formed an intimidating pairing with Alisa Diercksen. The duo finished the season 19-6 together, including 14-5 in dual matches. The tandem was nationally ranked by the International Tennis Association (ITA), checking in at No. 49. After dropping their first three dual matches, Hofbauer and Diercksen won 14 straight matches.
Â
Hofbauer helped lead ECU to a program-best 22-3 record. The Pirates racked up a 22-match winning streak, the longest by any ECU team. It culminated with ECU earning a spot in the ITA national rankings. The Pirates were ranked No. 49 by the ITA, the highest ranking in program history.
Â
It is the first conference postseason honor of Hofbauer's career. She is just the second Pirate to make the AAC All-Conference team, joining Celia Ruiz who did so in 2016, 2017 and 2018.
