July 18, 2019 | Men's Tennis
GREENVILLE, N.C. – Former ECU men's tennis player Massimo Mannino has found significant success off the court and was recently named to the Forbes 30 Under 30 list after his contributions to the field of "Tech."
Â
"It's an honor to have made the Forbes 30 Under 30," said Mannino. "At the same time it shows that the hard work from the past years is paying off. My time as a student athlete at ECU has taught me how to deal with pressure, use my time efficiently and keep fighting when things are not going well. This has helped me a lot to succeed as an entrepreneur and ultimately make it on the Forbes list."
Â
Mannino is the co-founder of the data company Novalytica and the European-wide job and career platform DataCareer. The Interlaken, Switzerland native went on to earn a PhD in economics from the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland following his time at ECU. Along with his duties as Novalytica and DataCareer, Mannino lectures in the areas of big data and machine learning at the Universities of Zurich and Lucerne.
Â
The Forbes 30 Under 30 honors the 30 most influential people from various industries who have achieved outstanding results before the age of 30. The 28-year-old Mannino made it onto the list in the "Tech" category.
Â
With Novalytica, Mannino and his team simplify access to a wide range of data sources with user-friendly, modern data tools. The focus is on clients from the real estate industry, campaign planning industry and the public sector.
Â
"It's no surprise to anyone who knew Massimo when he was here with us that he has gone on to this type of success," added head coach Shawn Heinchon. "He was always very focused and unbelievably competitive when we competed as a team. Those are typically great qualities for success in anything you do and Massimo is proof positive of that. He has always been a great ambassador for our university and our tennis program, this is likely the tip of the iceberg for him."
Â
Mannino lettered for two seasons in Greenville. He went 28-22 in singles matches, highlighted by a 14-8 record during the 2010 season as the Pirates went 18-8. Mannino also went 14-14 during the 2011 campaign, including 5-5 on the top court. In doubles, Mannino went 19-17 in his career. His most fruitful partnership was with Bryan Oakley as the duo went 7-3 in 2010.
