2018-19 Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars
GREENVILLE, N.C. – ECU rising senior Patrick Stephenson has been named a 2018-19 Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
As a junior last season, Stephenson finished second on the team with a scoring average of 72.57, 10th-lowest single-season average in ECU lore. He also finished second on the team in rounds under par (14) and tied for second in average relation to par (+1).
Stephenson's best finish of the season came at the Pirate Intercollegiate when he tied for second at 4-under-par. He posted the eight-lowest 54-hole in school history with a 206 at the Old Town Club Intercollegiate in Winston-Salem.
His selection marks the 25th time that a Pirate golfer has been named an All-America Scholar, and the 15th individual from ECU to garner the honor. It's the 11th time in the past 12 years that a Pirate has received the merit.
Stephenson was also named to the American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team earlier this summer.
It was a record setting year for the award as 540 student-athletes earned the title of All-America Scholar, the most since the awards inception in 1982. Out of the 555 honorees, 279 players were Division I selections, 113 in Division II, 24 NAIA recipients, and 18 NJCAA award winners.
To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically in Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their Associate's Degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA.
In addition, they must participate in 50 percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II, 78.0 in NAIA and 79.0 in Division III, 77.0 in NJCAA, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2.
