
Pirates Return To The Links In Puerto Rico

RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico – The East Carolina men's golf team is set to compete in the Puerto Rico Classic at Rio Mar Country Club in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico from Feb. 16-18.

The annual tournament, hosted in 2020 by Purdue, features one of the strongest fields the Pirates will compete against this season, as 14 of the 15 programs are ranked inside the top-100 of the Golfstat team rankings.

The three-day affair will begin with a 8 a.m. ET shotgun start on Sunday. Monday's round is also scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. ET, while Tuesday's final round will get underway at 7:30 in the morning.

The Pirates are participating in the event for the third consecutive season. A year ago, ECU tied for 14th after finishing ninth in 2018. Patrick Stephenson posted the Pirates' lowest score at 2-over-par 281, while Blake Taylor fired a 3-over-par 219.
Taylor will play from the No. 1 position this weekend, followed by Stephenson at No. 2, A.J. Beechler at No. 3, Tim Bunten at No. 4 and Attie Giles at No. 5. Taylor owns the lowest scoring average on the team at 70.72 strokes per round followed by Beechler (72.11) and Bunten (72.25).

ECU will play the first round alongside Big Ten conference members Iowa and Maryland.
