GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina redshirt senior Ryan Davis has earned his first career United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-America honor, according to an announcement by the organization Tuesday.
Â
After the cancellation of the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships due to the COVID-19 global pandemic, all student-athletes appearing on the start list for each individual event and the four per anticipated relay will be recognized as All-America for the 2020 indoor track season. There is no "first team", "second team" or "honorable mention" distinction.
Â
Davis is the 35th male All-America selection in program history and the first since Avion Jones captured first-team distinction in the high jump in 2016.
Â
"Our program is very excited to hear the announcement about Ryan Davis being an All-American," Director of Men's and Women's Track and Field and Cross Country Curt Kraft said. "Ryan is very deserving of this prestigious award. He has done an excellent job over the last many years of representing our program in a very positive manner. It's also very exciting to know that Ryan will be with us next year competing for the Pirates once again."
Â
Entering the national meet, Davis was ranked ninth in the weight throw with a school-record mark of 22.20 meters which he produced at the Carolina Challenge back in February. As a result of that performance, he was named the American Athletic Conference Male Field Athlete of the Week. His stellar campaign continued at the league's indoor championships where he topped the field with a meet-record mark of 21.75 meters to capture his second career conference weight throw crown.
