GREENVILLE, N.C. – Stefano Migliorati, one of the most decorated distance runners in East Carolina track and field and cross country program history, has signed a professional contract with New Balance.
Â
Migliorati, a native of Italy, competed for the Pirates from 2015-18.
Â
I am really happy to get the chance to run for New Balance," Migliorati said. "I started 2019 with one goal in mind - Tokyo2020. I was getting really good feedback during my training camp in South Africa this past January. I had the chance to train with some of the best athletes in the world, growing my consciousness towards my goals. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I have to postpone my plans to 2021. This situation will give me more time to grow and prepare for such a huge event. After Tokyo, my eyes will be pointed to the renovated Hayward Field stadium and the world championships in 2022."
Â
Migliorati has previous experience running at Hayward Field as he capped his ECU career in style by advancing to the semifinals of the 800-meter run at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, eventually finishing in 20th place. Winner of three American Athletic Conference titles in the 800m (2017 indoor and 2017/2018 outdoor), he left East Carolina as the school record holder in both the indoor and outdoor 800m events. He also qualified for the NCAA East Preliminary meet his junior and senior seasons.
Â
Also having experienced success on a global scale, Migliorati won the 800-meter crown at the 2017 Italian Athletics Championships in Trieste.
