GREENVILLE, N.C. --- The East Carolina University Department of Athletics is proud to announce the dancers who will make up the 2020 - 2021 ECU Dance Team which was determined by auditions held on Wednesday, August 5, 2020.Â
The 2020 - 2021 ECU Dance Team consists of a diverse squad of 20 dancers, featuring 16 returnees and four newcomers. Performing as a part of the squad again will be Emma Beaty (Belmont), Aysia Bradsher (Burlington), Sara Denton (Gastonia), Lindsay Fisher (Wake Forest), Karley Flynn (Pompton Lakes, N.J.), McKenzie Frey (Ashburn, Va.), Mackenzie Haswell (Goldsboro), Kristen Hellar (Rockaway, N.J.), Brooke Katsoudas (Charlotte), Abygayle Leggett (Hope Mills), Jensen Lockman (Denver), Melanie May (Middlesex, N.J.), Makensie McDaniel (Belmont), Lauryn Mulder (Raleigh), Blaire Reagan (Belmont), and Mikayla Secrest (Belmont).  Joining the veterans are sophomores Hunter Holland (Burlington), Kate Reames (Fayetteville) along with freshmen Courtney Gentry (Roxboro), and Dominque Merrell (Seattle, Wash.). Â
Each dancer was judged on technical skills, jazz, hip-hop, and pom routines along with a personal interview.
"The format of tryouts was a little different this year with safety precautions put into place for COVID. With only four seniors graduating and leaving the team the competition was tough. There was immense talent and dedication shown at tryouts this year. The participants have been waiting since April to audition for the team and showed perseverance, resilience, and a true commitment to ECU and Pirate Nation.," head coach Kristin Jeffries said. "I am looking forward to this season, although it will look a lot different than what our seasons have looked like in the past".
