GREENVILLE, N.C. – Following a comeback win at Memphis, the ECU women's basketball team will try to make it a winning streak as the Pirates head to Temple for a Saturday matinee.
Â
ECU (6-10, 4-7 AAC) outscored Memphis 23-6 in the fourth quarter to pull away for a 67-53 win and snap a seven-game losing streak. The Pirates will hope the calendar turning to February will continue to provide a spark as ECU is now 6-3 in February games since Kim McNeill took charge of the program, including a win over Saturday's opponent, Temple. Lashonda Monk had 20 points against the Tigers and is now up to 14.4 points per game on the season, sixth in the AAC. The senior also ranks seventh in field goal percentage (.361), sixth in triples made (24) and first in steals (2.8). Taniyah Thompson ranks second on the team in scoring, averaging 11.2 points while Sierra DaCosta and Maddie Moore are each scoring 9.1 points per game. Both Monk and Dominique Claytor continue to climb the ECU record books. Monk has extended her Pirate steals record to 352 and has now climbed to 12th all-time in scoring with 1,252 points. She needs 10 points to reach 11th and 114 points to climb into the top-10. Claytor is right behind Monk with 38 steals this season and now has 217 for her career, putting her in sixth place in ECU history.
Â
Temple (7-8, 7-5 AAC) is coming off its worst home loss of the season, falling to Houston 89-52. The Owls were hurt by turnovers, giving the ball away 26 times which resulted in 40 Houston points. It was the fifth time Temple has allowed more than 70 points to a conference opponent, all of which have resulted in losses. Mia Davis, the AAC Co-Preseason Player of the Year is second in the league in scoring (18.4 ppg) and fourth in rebounding (7.8 rpg). Alexa Wiliamson has also been strong down low for the Owls, scoring 11.5 points and grabbing 6.7 rebounds per game. JAsha Clinton is the top shooting option for Temple, ranking eighth in the conference with a three-point percentage of .295 while Asonah Alexander makes the offense hum, giving out 5.5 assists per game to rank third in the AAC.
Â
The two teams met in Greenville in early January with Temple taking a 66-57 win thanks to a 17-9 fourth quarter. It was the second straight win for Temple over ECU dating back to a win in the 2020 AAC Championship First Round. ECU has an all-time record of 8-2 against Temple, but one of those wins came last season when ECU roared back from a 17-point deficit and outscored Temple 23-10 in the fourth quarter to win 56-50. The Pirates forced 19 Temple turnovers that day and Thompson scored a game-high 23 points.

Tipoff is scheduled for 12 noon at Pearson & McGonigle Hall. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
