GREENVILLE, N.C. – With four games remaining in the regular-season, the ECU women's basketball team will try to move up in the conference standings as they host Wichita State on Saturday afternoon in Minges Coliseum.
Â
After leading heading into the fourth quarter, ECU went back-and-forth with Temple last Saturday, with the teams having nine lead changes in the fourth quarter. Lashonda Monk, Maddie Moore and Sierra DaCosta all had 10 points to lead the Pirates. Monk also added eight rebounds, five assists and three steals. Dominique Claytor also had three steals against the Owls and the pair are still first and second in the AAC in steals, with 42 and 41 respectively.
Â
Monk is up to fourth in scoring in conference games, averaging 14.7 points against AAC opponents. Thompson and Moore are both in the top-30 in the same ranking, with Thompson checking in at 20th with an average of 10.7 points while Moore is scoring 9.2 points to rank 29th. Claytor is 20th in the league in rebounding in conference games, pulling down 5.5 rebounds.
Â
The Pirates will also be celebrating their six seniors before the game on Saturday. The sextet has combined for 3,263 points, 1,639 rebounds, 839 assists and 789 steals in a combined 477 games in an ECU uniform. Monk will be going for her fourth consecutive season earning an AAC postseason honor after being named second-team All-AAC and the AAC Defensive Player of the Year in 2020. Claytor is currently fifth in career steals at ECU. After a successful three-year run at Hartford, DaCosta scored her 1,000th career point this season for ECU and is third on the team in scoring. Justice Gee has knocked down a pair of game-winning triples in her career, the first against Liberty in 2018 and another earlier this season to secure a win over Virginia. Injuries have kept Ariyana Williams and Raven Johnson off the court this season, but Johnson was the team's second-highest scorer and leading rebounder in 2018-19 while Williams set an ECU freshman record with 51 made three-pointers.

Scouting Wichita State
Wichita State (4-9, 1-7) comes into the weekend trying to climb out of the bottom of the league standings. After a 17-day layoff in the middle of January, the Shockers have played five games since Jan. 23, but have won just once, claiming a road win against Cincinnati. That is the only time this season Wichita State has won away from home in five tries. Asia Strong has been one of the best scorers in the American conference, averaging 15.2 points to rank third in the league. Seraphine Bastin is second on the team in scoring (10.5 points) and ranks sixth in the conference in rebounding, grabbing 7.3 boards. As a team, the Shockers are one of the better shooting teams in the conference. They are shooting .401 from the floor and .308 from behind the three-point arc. Â Â
Â
The Wichita State Series
ECU won the first two meetings with Wichita State after the Shockers moved to the conference in the 2017-18 season, but Wichita State has won three straight against the Pirates. Last season, Wichita State swept the season series, winning both games by a combined 10 points.
Â
Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m., on Saturday afternoon inside Minges Coliseum. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
