ECU Gears Up For Wake Forest Invitational
February 28, 2021 | Men's Golf
GREENVILLE, N.C. — The East Carolina men's golf team returns to the links on Monday for its second tournament of the season – the Wake Forest Invitational – at the fabled Pinehurst No. 2, site of more single golf championships than any course in America including the 2014 U.S. Open.
Â
Augusta, Boston College, Davidson, Duke, Furman North Carolina, NC State, Virginia and Virginia Tech join the Pirates and host Demon Deacons to comprise the 11-team field.
Â
Senior Stephen Carroll will lead Pirates into the tournament after posting the team's lowest score (221) at the season-opening Kiawah Invitational. Pinehurst native A.J. Beechler, Tim Bunten, Patrick Stephenson and Jack Massei are also part of the Pirates' five-man unit with Attie Giles, who also grew up in Pinehurst, playing as an individual.
Â
Beechler won the 2017 and 2018 North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) 4-A individual titles on Pinehurst No. 6. Earlier this season he won the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) Amateur Series event on the same course.
Â
Giles and Beechler were both part of Pinecrest High School's 2017 NCHSAA 4-A boy's golf championship team.
Monday's first round shotgun will begin at 8:30 a.m. with continuous play into round two. Tuesday's final round tee times will begin at 7:30 a.m.
