
ECU Heads To Kannapolis For Irish Creek Intercollegiate

The East Carolina men's golf team will compete in the Irish Creek Intercollegiate April 2-3 at the Club at Irish Creek in Kannapolis.

The tournament features a 15-team field including co-hosts Charlotte and Davidson, along with Appalachian State, Furman, Jacksonville, James Madison, Marshall, Middle Tennessee State, Ohio, Richmond, Rutgers, UNCG, UNCW and VCU.

Participants will play 54 holes – 36 on Friday and 18 on Saturday – at the 7,099-yard, par-71 course. Play begins at 8 a.m. both days.Â

The Pirates, who were scheduled to participate in the event before it was canceled due to the pandemic, have competed in the Irish Creek Intercollegiate five times previously. Their best finish was fourth-place in 2015.

Senior Stephen Carroll leads ECU's contingent to the Charlotte metropolitan area. The Concord native owns a strokes per round average of 74.08 which is the second-lowest on the team. Fifth-year senior Patrick Stephenson has a slightly better average at 74.00. Both players will be looking to earn their first top 10 finish of the season this weekend. Stephenson carded a 1-under-par 212 at the event in 2019, while Carroll shot 3-over-par 216.

Also competing for the Pirates are senior Tim Bunten, junior A.J. Beechler and redshirt sophomore Connor Jones along with junior Jack Massei, who will be playing as an individual. Bunten and Beechler both competed at the 2019 Irish Creek Intercollegiate, shooting 2-over and 4-over-par, respectively.
