Pirates Gear Up For Aggie Classic
April 23, 2021 | Track & Field
GREENVILLE, N.C. – After a week off from competition, East Carolina concludes its outdoor regular season Saturday at the Aggie Classic in Greensboro.
Â
The field events begin at 9 a.m. with the track races following at 11 a.m.
Â
"This will be our last tune up before the outdoor conference championships," Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Curt Kraft said. "It is very important that we try to get some marks that move us up the conference list this weekend. This facility is always a lot of fun to compete on, as it is one of the nicest in the state of North Carolina. We have had two weeks of really good practices to prepare us for this last regular season meet."
Â
The Pirates most recently competed at the Gamecock Invitational at the University of South Carolina where Ryan Davis broke his own school record in the hammer throw. He posted a mark of 69.51 meters to win the event title while also capturing first place in the discus with a total of 54.25 meters. Davis currently ranks 10th in the nation in the hammer.
Â
Sommer Knight also enters this weekend as the AAC leader in the pole vault, having posted a mark of 4.11 meters a couple of weeks ago at the Bill Carson Invitational.
Â
The American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships are scheduled for May 14-16 in Tampa, Fla.
