
Pirates Toe the Line at AAC Championships Friday

GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina cross country program will compete at the American Athletic Conference Championships on Friday in Tulsa, Okla. The meet will be streamed on ESPN+ and live results will be available here.

In the event a year ago, the Pirate women claimed their best finish since 2015 with a fifth-place effort while the men took sixth. The teams will look to improve upon the efforts last season, this time under the tutelage of first-year head coach Billy Caldwell.
"I am excited for our women to race this weekend. They have been progressing so nicely throughout the year and have amazing momentum going into this championship," said Caldwell. "And the men are looking to build on the great performance from the home meeting going into the championship!  Going up against some of the best teams in the country it will be a true test for our guys!"

Last Time Out
ECU hosted the Pirate Invitational on Friday at Lake Kristi. The Pirate men took third teams while the women's squad finished fourth out of 10 teams

The ECU women were led on the evening by Hayley Whoolery who finished seventh, covering the 6K course in 22:05.67. Alyssa Zack was the second Pirate and took ninth in 22:11.13. Lindsay Yentz joined the duo in the top 20 with a 14th-place finish in 22:39.81. Lily Schlossberg (27th) and Allysa Combs (38th) rounded out the scoring lineup for the Pirates. and Makayla Obremski, Emily Baba and Hailey Yentz also competed for ECU, finishing 48th, 54th and 55th, respectively.

On the men's side, Chase Osborne led the way with a fifth-place finish in 24:51.93. Elliot Kleckner and Ted Sielatycki joined Osborne in the top 20, finishing 17th and 18th, respectively. Zach Willer (24st) and Conner O'Shea (26th) rounded out the scoring. Just outside of the top-five Pirates, Alex Sawyer, Cooper Kleckner and Nick Willer followed just behind in 30th, 32nd and 34th.
