GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina women's basketball team kicks off American Athletic Conference play on Friday at 6 p.m. as they take on the Tulsa Golden Hurricane in Minges Coliseum.

Last Time Out
The Pirates won a thriller on the road at Hampton on Dec. 21. Amiya Joyner was the star of the day, recording her second-straight double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds as well as three blocks. Outside of her statistics, the freshman forward hit the game-winning shot from the paint with just 2.1 seconds remaining before icing the game with a pair of free throws with one second left after Synia Johnson forced a Hampton turnover.

Scouting Tulsa
The Golden Hurricane have gotten off to a strong 10-3 record to open the season with two of their three losses coming at the hands of Power Five programs in Arkansas and Kansas. Against the teams' one common opponent, Tulsa won in blowout fashion, 92-57, over South Carolina State.

Tulsa has three players scoring in double figures this season, led by Temira Poindexter at 14.8 per game. Poindexter also hauls in 5.8 rebounds per game, just one rebound behind team leader Delanie Crawford. Poindexter has also registered 18 blocks on the year while Maddie Bittle leads the group in assists with 44 on the season to go with 9.2 points per game.

Series History
Tulsa leads the all-time series 15-12 dating back to 2006 and has also won three-consecutive games in the series. The Pirates last defeated the Golden Hurricane in February 2020, a 59-42 margin in Minges Coliseum. The last meeting was in January in Tulsa with a 71-59 final score. Taniyah Thompson led the Pirates with 16 points in the game while Tylar Bennett just missed a double-double with nine points and eight rebounds. The Pirates will call on a new cast to step up when the teams meet on Friday.
