Pirates Host Longwood for Saturday Exhibition

GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina soccer team returns home to wrap up the preseason with an exhibition match against the Longwood Lancers on Saturday at Johnson Stadium with kickoff scheduled for 1 p.m.

"We are very excited to play our first game of the 2022 season in Johnson Stadium tomorrow," said Head Coach Gary Higgins. "We learned some valuable lessons on Wednesday evening, in our first exhibition game and we are excited for the opportunity to play against Longwood tomorrow. We have had a tough yet enjoyable pre season, and we are looking forward to being able to sharpen up some things before our regular season starts next week. We hope to see you all out at Johnson Stadium tomorrow. Thanks and Go Pirates!"

Last Time Out
The Pirates went on the road to open the regular season for an exhibition against Liberty University. The game ended with a 2-0 defeat for ECU, conceding a goal each half.

Scouting The Lancers
Longwood enters the season after an 8-8-4 campaign in 2021, including 6-2-2 in Big South Conference play. In road matchups, the Lancers were 4-6-3 on the season a year ago. Offensively, the team spread the wealth with no player scoring more than five goals on the season, and six players tallying multiple goals.

Series History
The Pirates and Lancers faced off in the preseason in 2021 as well, with East Carolina coming away from the game with a 2-0 exhibition victory. Haley McWhirter tallied both goals with Sierra Lowery and Holly Schlagel picking up assists.

The two schools have met only once in the regular season, way back in 2005 when the Pirates notched a 3-1 victory led by brace by Meghan McCallion and a Madison Keller tally.
