Last Time Out
The Pirates (2-1) are coming off a disappointing 83-81 setback on Wednesday night to USC Upstate as career nights from RJ Felton and Ezra Ausar were not enough to push ECU past the pesky Spartans. Felton continued his hot start to the season with 33 points and Ausar added 24 but the rest of the eight Pirates who played combined for just 24 points on 9-of-32 shooting.
Â
Only The Second Time
When the Pirates take the floor on Sunday, it will be only the second time in program history that ECU has hosted a multi-team event (MTE). ECU hosted the ECU Classic in December of 1968 and faced Virginia, Virginia Tech and Cornell in the eight-team tournament. The other schools in the tournament were Air Force, Baylor, Delaware and William & Mary. The Pirates defeated Cornell in the first game 74-67 but the team dropped its contests to Virginia (88-79) and Virginia Tech (87-86) to finish sixth in the tournament.
Â
Scouting the Huskies
The Huskies (1-2) enter the TowneBank Holiday Classic off of a 80-56 setback to Harvard on Nov. 14. Harold Woods was the lone player in double figures (12 points) in the 24-point loss. Joe Pridgen leads the team in scoring with 11.7 points per game and Luka Sakota adds 11.0 points per contest as well. The Huskies are led by Bill Coen, who is in his 18th year as head coach. The all-time series between the Pirates and Huskies is knotted at 1-1 as ECU took the last meeting, 74-70, inside Minges Coliseum on Dec. 8, 1986.
Â
Scouting the Eagles
Georgia Southern (0-3) is coming off an 85-68 setback to Jacksonville on Nov. 14. The Eagles are guided by first-year head coach Charlie Henry are led by Deuce Dean's 17 points per game. Cam Bryant and Jamar Franklin each average 8.3 points per contest as well for Georgia Southern. The Eagles are also an experienced bunch with 11 players on the roster classified as a junior or older. The Pirates lead the all-time series with Georgia Southern 5-3 but Monday's meeting will be the first time the programs will clash since Feb. 6, 1991 when the Eagles defeated the Pirates 80-68 in Statesboro, Ga.
Â
Scouting the Owls
Kennesaw State (2-1) is coming off a 101-55 rout of Keiser at home on Nov. 15. Four Owls scored in double figures led by Simeon Cottle's 20 points.
