WILMINGTON, N.C. – East Carolina is set for its final test before conference play begins as the Pirates trek to UNC Wilmington for a 5 p.m. midweek matchup against the Seahawks at Boseman Field on FloSoftball.

ECU run-ruled UNCW 9-1 in five innings back on Feb. 11 in Wilmington to conclude the UNCW Tournament. The Pirates are coming off a 2-2 weekend in their final preseason tournament, falling to Ohio State twice and defeating Cleveland State and Presbyterian.

UCLA grad transfer Taylor Edwards leads the Pirates at the plate, batting .403 (4th in AAC), has hit a league-high five triples this season and has notched multiple hits in seven games. Edwards has been the definition of a utility player for the Pirates playing outfield, first base and designated player so far this season. Fellow outfielder Taudrea Sinnie is tied for the league lead in stolen bases with 13 and has been successful on every stolen base attempt. Jordan Hatch tossed a career-high 11 strikeouts versus Cleveland State and only allowed one hit and run which came in the seventh inning.

Scouting the Seahawks
The Seahawks were swept in their road series with conference foe Delaware and have only tallied two runs in their last three games. Janel Gamache leads the Seahawks at the plate with a .386 batting average and four home runs and also sports a team-best 1.73 ERA. UNCW is one of only two teams in the Colonial Athletic Association that is in the top three in ERA (3.08) and batting average (.260).
