GREENVILLE, N.C. – Armed with an eight-game winning streak and its highest national ranking of the campaign, No. 7 East Carolina kicks off a five-game road swing Wednesday night with a non-conference affair against the Charlotte 49ers at Truist Field - the home of the Triple A Charlotte Knights.

The contest, scheduled for a 6:05 p.m. first pitch, will stream live via ESPN+. Scooter Rogers and Dr. Gary Overton will have the radio call on 94.3 The Game.

The Pirates put together another 4-0 showing last week, knocking off Old Dominion Tuesday before outscoring Cincinnati 32-7 with a pair of run-rule victories to notch their second-straight series sweep in American Athletic Conference play. ECU is 4-5 away from home this season with wins at North Carolina, Queens University, Elon and Houston.

East Carolina is hitting a stout .350 during its eight-game win streak and sits at .304 for the season – good for 35th nationally. Eight different Pirates are batting over the .300 mark, paced by Justin Wilcoxen who checks in at .346. Josh Moylan, who was named to the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll April 17, is close behind at .333 while leading the club in doubles (11), RBI (39) and home runs (eight).

The ECU pitching staff continues to excel, checking in at 12th in the country with a 3.55 earned run average and 372 strikeouts against 113 walks in 317.1 innings of work. The Pirates are also among the national leaders in WHIP (1.19/sixth), strikeout-to-walk ratio (3.29/sixth), hits allowed per nine innings (7.49/12th), walks allowed per nine innings (3.20/13th) and strikeouts per nine innings (10.6/17th).

Charlotte (19-16) fell to No. 18 North Carolina 5-3 in Chapel Hill Tuesday evening, but the 49ers did pick up an impressive road sweep of Conference USA opponent Rice last weekend in Houston. Cam Fisher leads the way offensively with a .377 batting average and a squad-best 17 home runs. Charlotte is hitting .260 collectively while the 49er pitchers sport a 4.74 ERA with 343 strikeouts and 141 walks in 305.2 frames.

East Carolina leads the series with Charlotte 34-6 and has won the last 12 meetings dating back to 2017. The Pirates and 49ers last met during the 2021 season when ECU swept a three-game set in Greenville before knocking off Charlotte 7-5 in the winner's bracket game of the NCAA Greenville Regional.

Spivey Named AAC Pitcher of the Week
Senior RHP Carter Spivey was tabbed the AAC Pitcher of the Week for the second time in his career April 17 after tossing the second complete-game shutout by an East Carolina pitcher this season in the Pirates' 10-0 run rule victory over Cincinnati April 15. He scattered four hits and struck out three while walking none over seven innings in his longest outing of the campaign. Spivey retired the first eight Bearcat batters of the contest and used just 83 pitches to record the shutout. Through three weeks of American Conference play, Spivey ranks fourth among league pitchers in earned run average (2.08) and earned runs allowed (four). Opposing conference hitters are batting just .212 against the league's preseason pitcher of the year in 17.1 innings.

Yesavage Tabbed To Midseason Golden Spikes Award Watch List
Sophomore RHP Trey Yesavage is one of 45 players nationally to earn a spot on the midseason Golden Spikes Award watch list. He is the sixth Pirate in program history to be named to the midseason list following Jeff Hoffman (2013), Evan Kruczynski (2016), Chris Holba (2018), Jake Agnos (2019) and Connor Norby (2021). ECU has had four players named to the preseason watch list in Kyle Roller (2010), Jeff Hoffman (2014), Bryant Packard (2019) and Alec Burleson (2020), while Corey Kemp is the lone Pirate to be named a semifinalist in 2008.

Head Coach Cliff Godwin: Owns 332 career wins and is second on the East Carolina career coaching wins list ...
