CINCINNATI, Ohio – Heading down the stretch of the regular season, No. 14 East Carolina heads to Cincinnati May 5-7 for an American Athletic Conference series at the UC Baseball Stadium. All three games will be streamed live on ESPN+ while Scooter Rogers will have the radio call on 94.3 The Game.
Â
The Pirates (31-14, 9-6 AAC) currently reside in third place in the league standings but are just one game back of both Wichita State and Houston who match up this weekend in Texas. ECU has two AAC series remaining after its trip to Cincinnati – hosting Memphis and traveling to South Florida before the American Athletic Conference Baseball Championship in Clearwater, Fla.
Â
ECU dropped a tight 2-1 decision to North Carolina Wednesday in Greenville as the teams combined for just seven hits on a blustery evening inside Clark-LeClair Stadium. The Pirate pitching staff struck out 11 Tar Heel batters, reaching double figures for the 23rd time this campaign.
Â
East Carolina leads the AAC circuit in earned run average (4.11) and is third in batting average (.287). The Pirates also check in second in fielding percentage (.976). Justin Wilcoxen paces the ECU offense with a .328 average and is one of five Pirate batters hitting at least .301. East Carolina's pitching unit has struck out a league-high 452 batters against just 140 walks in 394.1 innings of work.
Â
Cincinnati (20-24, 8-7 AAC) lurks just one game back of ECU in the conference standings by virtue of a road series sweep of South Florida last weekend. The Bearcats own a 10-8 record at the UC Baseball Stadium, including a 3-3 mark in league play. Cincinnati is hitting .245 collectively while sporting a 6.72 team ERA with 349 strikeouts and 217 walks in 364.1 frames.
