Pirates Set for Adidas XC Challenge

GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina cross country team will toe the line for their second meet of the season at the Adidas XC Challenge on Friday in Cary.

The meet, hosted by N.C. State, is set to get underway at the WakeMed Soccer Park Cross Country Course at 5:15 p.m. with the men's 6K followed by the women's 5K at 5:55 p.m.

"The group is looking forward to our second test of the season," said coach Billy Caldwell. "We have some great momentum coming off of a solid start to the season at Elon. The group has strung together two great weeks of training and are ready to go up against some nationally and regionally ranked competition. Pirates are excited and ready to roll as a group! ARGH!"
Teams set to attend the meet include: Coastal Carolina, College of Charleston, North Carolina A&T, North Carolina Central and Elon, among others.

Last Time Out
The Pirates opened their season at Elon's "Friday Night Lights" Opener. The Pirate women finished fourth in the meet led by Alyssa Zack in 14th while the men finished third led by Alex Sawyer who finished 17th.

The Pirate women opened the night with their 4K race where Zack led the charge with her 13:59.8 finished. Zack was followed up by Allysa Combs and Lily Schlossberg in 19th and 21st, respectively while Hayley Whoolery (24th) and Jessica Neal (28th) rounded out the scoring in her first race in Purple and Gold.

The men took to the course to end the night with a 6K race where Sawyer led the pack in 18:09.1. Ted Sielatycki was close behind in 18:12.5 with Nick Willer not too far behind. Colin McCauley (38th), Sam Dewar (47th) and Conner O'Shea (49th) rounded out the ECU scoring.
