ECU Claims Ironwood Collegiate Classic Team Title
October 01, 2024 | Men's Golf
GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina men's golf team posted a final round score of 270 (18-under par) to claim the team title at the Ironwood Collegiate Classic Tuesday afternoon. The event, originally scheduled for 54 holes, was reduced to 36 due to inclement weather Monday afternoon at the Ironwood Golf and Country Club.
"We couldn't be prouder of the guys this week," said ECU Assistant Men's Coach Mike Cato. "It was our first win in 2024, and we defended our home course. The back nine display by our five starters was incredible. Tyler DeChellis and Philip Linberg Bondestad put on a barrage of birdies to lift the team to victory. In all, great playing by the entire team!"
The Pirates, who set the 36-hole (or two round score) record with a 548 and tied the school relative to par record at 18-under), had four of their five starters shoot rounds in the 60's. DeChellis posted a 7-under par 65 after an opening round 70, while Bondestad was 5-under with a 67 (68 round one) and both finished tied for third at 135 (9-under). Adam Lennermark finished 16th with a score of 140 (4-under) following rounds of 71 and 69. Nathan O'Neal placed 33rd with a score of 142 (73-69) while Carter Busse finished 40th at 143 (69-74).
Playing as individuals for ECU were Luke Mosley (71-69=140) and Davis DeLille (71-69=140) both finishing tied for 16th, as well as Drew O'Neal (69-76=145) and Holden Rucker (77-69=146) placing tied for 53rd and 59th place.
As a team, ECU finished two shots ahead of Long Island (550), while Florida Atlantic (552), UCF (560) and Queens (561) rounded out the top five.
Florida Atlantic's Biagio Gagliardi claimed top medalist honors with a score of 131 (13-under) followed by Long Island's Arjun Singh Bhatia at 134 (10-under) for second place. Rounding out all-tournament team honors were DeChellis and Bondestad in a share for third place.
The Pirates return to action on Monday, Oct. 14 when they participate in the Elon Phoenix Invitational in Burlington, N.C. at the Alamance Country Club.
