Pirates Suffer Hiccup Against South Florida, 3-0
October 10, 2024 | Soccer
GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina soccer team suffered a frustrating 3-0 loss to South Florida on Thursday night in Johnson Stadium. The Pirates mustered 13 shots, six shots on frame and 10 corners but were unable to capitalize in the defeat.
The Bulls (8-2-3, 3-1-2 AAC) were able to put their first goal on the board at 41:28 in the first half when Elyse Thornton placed a shot to the lower left off of a cross from Gentiana Fetaj. The shot took a deflection from an ECU (6-3-4, 3-2-1 AAC) defender to sneak past Maeve English and into the goal.
The Bulls got two more goals in quick succession in the 60th minute in the second half. The first goal came from the foot of Anna Sutter who got behind the defense for a one-on-one with English. The veteran keeper got a shin to the ball but it floated back and into the goal anyhow.
The final goal was scored by Sophia Cabral just 35 seconds later when the Pirates had another pass deflected by a friendly defender right to the feet of Cabral who made no mistake in giving English no chance at the save.
