GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina soccer team looks to return to the win column as they host the UAB Blazers on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Johnson Stadium. The game is also the program's Senior Day as they honor their terrific senior class.
The game is free to attend for fans and the Senior Day festivities will take place 30 minutes prior to the opening kick. For those unable to attend, the game will be available for streaming on ESPN+ with Zach Berly and Brittany Hoyt on the call.
Last Time Out
The Pirates nabbed a draw on the road against No. 16 Memphis with a Caitlen-Star Dolan Boodram banger in the 75th minute from distance to equalize in the 1-1 result. Dolan Boodram's goal was her second of the season and the first for the Pirates against the Tigers since 2021. In earning the draw, ECU snapped Memphis' nation's-best 17-game home winning streak.
Scouting UAB
The Blazers bring a 5-4-3 record into the contest after a scoreless draw with Charlotte in their last contest and the full gamut of a win, loss and tie in their last three. Offensively, Abbey Burns leads the way with five goals while Maia Sirota's pair of assists are a team best. So far on the year, only six players have scored a goal with just Burns and Sydney Bolinger scoring multiple. In goal, Anika Toth has played every second this season and has fared well with six shutouts and a .763 save percentage on 145 shots faced.
Series History
The Pirates and Blazers have a fairly lengthy history from their days together in the CUSA. UAB leads the series 4-2-5 with the last three matches taking place in Birmingham, including a 1-1 draw last season. Sydney Schnell scored the goal in that game in the 74th minute but UAB was able to strike to salvage a draw in the 87th minute. The Pirates last hosted UAB in Greenville back in 2011, a 3-2 loss in overtime.
Weekly Honors
Caitlen-Star Dolan Boodram's tie-securing goal earned her a weekly Honorable Mention nod on Monday.
Iron Woman
Abby Sowa has played in every game and not come off for a second since Oct. 17, 2021. She has played 4,980 consecutive minutes and has been on the pitch for all 1,260 minutes this season. That's two full seasons and 55 full games.
Iron Women II
Maeve English and Annabelle Abbott both rank in the top 10 in program history in career starts with 81 and 79 apiece. English remains on pace to finish atop the record book while Abbott has a fighting crack, if the Pirates make the conference tournament, to break the old record as well with three games remaining in the regular season. Madison Keller holds the current mark with 82 starts from 2005-08.
Our Seniors
The Pirates will be celebrating a large class of decorated seniors on Sunday: Samantha Moxie, Abby Sowa, Annabelle Abbott, Kylie Alvarez, Lindsey Aiken, Sydney Schnell, Maeve English and Keyera Wynn. Molly Thomas and Holly Schlagel will be walking with their senior class but intend to return for firth seasons in 2025.
