
Erin Pope Paces Pirates at Panorama Farms Invitational

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Erin Pope ran to a top 25 finish and Alex Sawyer cracked the top 50 to lead the East Carolina cross country team at the Panorama Farms Invitational hosted by Virginia on Saturday morning. The Pirates women finished 12th as a team while the men took 13th overall.

The men took the course first for their 8K race and it was Sawyer leading the charge with his 24:18.9 result to take 47th overall. Sawyer was joined in the scoring lineup by J Henry Lyon (65th), Ryan Tarapchak (144th), Nick Willer (148th) and Ashton Tolson (154th). Elliott Kleckner, Judah Lacroix and Cooper Kleckner also toed the line for the Pirate men, taking 169th, 170th and 173rd each.

On the women's side, it was Pope leading the way again as her 21:29.5 time for 6K placed her 24th overall against a very competitive field. The freshman out Wilson was joined in the scoring lineup by Kaylee McCullough (42nd), Hayley Whoolery (58th), Navaya Zales (97th) and Lily Schlossberg (112th). Bella Wood, Ava Elliott and Katrina Ford also competed for the Pirate women, finishing 113th, 115th and 126th, respectively.

In the team competition it was the Virginia women and the Wake Forest men taking the victories on the day in terrific fields of competition.

The Pirates will next take to the course at the American Athletic Conference Championships on Nov. 1 hosted by Wichita State.
