Last Time Out
Sydney Schnell notched her first career brace and Abby Sowa tucked home a penalty kick to key a resurgent Pirate offense in a 3-0 win over North Texas. Maeve English made seven saves in the game for a clean sheet against a UNT side which entered the game leading the league with 25.5 shots per game. Schnell opened and closed the scoring with two well-struck shots while Sowa's insurance goal with under 12 minutes remaining helped push the Pirates to dealing UNT their first conference loss and first loss overall in 10 games.
Scouting Tulsa
The Golden Hurricane will be the second high octane offense the Pirates have faced in as many games. With 31 goals and 34 assists on the year, Tulsa is led by Leah Diaz' 18 points on six goals and six assists, Blaine Schutte's eight goals, Jordan Frederick's seven assists and Hannah Chance's 13 points on five goals and three assists. Defensively, Tatum Sanders and Kylie Koeijmans have both played significant minutes with Sanders getting nine starts including all three in conference play with 14 total goals allowed and a .797 save percentage. At 5-5-2 and 1-2-0 in conference, Tulsa shook off a four-game skid to down Temple on Sunday by a 3-2 margin.
Series History
The Pirates and Golden Hurricane have been at a stalemate for their last three meetings which all ended in ties. The Pirates lead the all-time series 9-5-4, including wins in the first five games of the series. Last time out, it was a dramatic 2-2 result in Johnson Stadium which saw Annabelle Abbott fire a screamer from distance with seven seconds remaining to steal a point from almost assured defeat
Iron Woman
Abby Sowa has played in every game and not come off for a second since Oct. 17, 2021. She has played 4,710 consecutive minutes and has been on the pitch for all 990 minutes this season. That's two full seasons and 52 full games.
Iron Women II
Maeve English and Annabelle Abbott both rank in the top 10 in program history in career starts with 78 and 76 apiece. English remains on pace to finish atop the record book while Abbott has a fighting crack, if the Pirates make the conference tournament, to break the old record as well with six games remaining in the regular season. Madison Keller holds the current mark with 82 starts from 2005-08.
Shoot to Score
After outshooting their opponent in the first 10 games, the Pirates were finally outdone by a 14-6 margin by North Texas on Sunday. However, the Pirates put five of their six shots on frame and three of them resulted in goals.
