GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina soccer team concludes its 2024 road slate in Boca Raton, Fla. against the Florida Atlantic Owls on Sunday at 1 p.m. The game will be available for streaming on ESPN+.
Last Time Out
The Pirates stole a point from the jaws of defeat with an Isabella Gutiérrez goal with 1:47 remaining to secure a 2-2 result with UAB. A Sydney Schnell chip of the keeper from distance gave the team their first goal in the opening frame, erasing an early score by the Blazers. In the second half, UAB found another score and it looked dire—with UAB even taking the ball to their corner flag—before Mackenzie Smith served one up which took a deflection out to the Mexican midfielder who made no mistakes of her chance.
Scouting Florida Atlantic
The Owls enter Sunday's contest after a 3-0 thumping of Temple on Thursday to move to 3-9-4 on the year. Offensively, it has been a spread-the-wealth campaign for the Owls with five players scoring two goals but no single player pushing past a pair. Four other players have single goals to get the team to their 14 on the year to go with three assists. On the other side of the ball, Lexi Gonzalez has made 13 starts in goal with four shutouts and a .699 save percentage.
Series History
The Pirates and Owls have only met three times over the years with a 3-0-0 edge for ECU including a 1-0 result in the teams' first meeting in American Athletic Conference play last season. Jazmin Ferguson scored the 66th minute winner in that game as the ECU defense held the Owls without a single shot in the entire contest.
Iron Woman
Abby Sowa has played in every game and not come off for a second since Oct. 17, 2021. She has played 5,070 consecutive minutes and has been on the pitch for all 1,260 minutes this season. That's two full seasons and 56 full games.
Iron Women II
Maeve English and Annabelle Abbott both rank in the top 10 in program history in career starts with 82 and 80 apiece. English is set to break Madison Keller's current mark with 82 starts from 2005-08 on Sunday. Both players have a chance to break the program record for career appearances at 85 should the team make the conference tournament.
