
ECU Men 7th, Women 11th at Pirate Cross Country Invitational

GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina men finished seventh and the women took 11th at the Pirate Cross Country Invitational on Friday morning at Overton's Lake Kristi. Erin Pope led all Pirates with a top 10 finish while J Henry Lyon paced the men with a top 15 result.
The men took to the course first on the day for an 8K race in which Lyon keyed the Pirates with a 13th-place finish in 24:26.4. Alex Sawyer finished just behind in 15th, closing hard over the final few kilometers for a 24:31.3 result. Ryan Tarapchak (65th), Ashton Tolson (80th) and Judah Lacroix (84th) rounded out the scoring for the men while Nick Willer (89th), Elliott Kleckner (96th), Zach Willer (135th) and Sam Dewar (174th) represented the rest of the ECU lineup.
On the women's side, Pope had a terrific day with her sixth-place finish in a time of 21:49.6 while Kaylee McCullough took 13th in 22:04.9. Hayley Whoolery took 74th before Ava Elliott and and Bella Wood crossed the line in 91st and 117th to finish up the scoring. Katrina Ford (122nd), Navaya Zales (145th) and Madelyn Mead (170th) rounded out the ECU lineup.

"We took some positive steps on both sides. It's always great to get to run in front of Pirate Nation and we were fortunate to get some great weather for the meet. A lot of good to take away from the day as we gear up for the end of the season and the conference meet."
