Last Time Out
RJ Felton scored a game-high 22 points and C.J. Walker recorded a career-high 21 points along with 12 rebounds as East Carolina routed N.C. Wesleyan 97-70 in the Pirates' season-opener on Monday night at Williams Arena in Minges Coliseum. Jordan Riley added 14 points and Cam Hayes scored 10 for ECU (1-0) who used a 20-0 run in the first half to blow the game open and take a 28-4 lead with 11:48 remaining in the half. ECU would go up by as much as 35 in the first 20 minutes, shooting 60 percent (21-35) from the floor and 64 percent (7-11) from behind the arc en route to a record-setting 65 points in the first half.
Â
500 in Minges
With a win on Saturday, it would mark 500 wins inside Minges Coliseum for the Pirates' men's basketball program. ECU has won at least 10 or more games at home in its last three seasons.
Â
Walker's Strong Pirate Debut
The Sanford, Fla. native wasted little time in making his presence felt in the season-opener on Monday night, scoring ECU's first six points and recording 16 of his career-high 21 points in the first half of the Pirates' blowout victory. Walker also snared a game-high 12 rebounds for his fourth career double-double and finished just two points shy of tying Jonathan Moore (11/14/01) for the most points scored in a Pirate debut since 1986.
Â
Scouting the Chanticleers
Coastal Carolina enters Saturday's contest off of a much closer season-opening win as the Chanticleers defeated Western Michigan 60-56 in Conway. Rasheed Jones and Noah Amenhauser both scored in double figures with 15 and 10 points respectively and are two of the Chants' 13 newcomers for the season. Senior Henry Abraham and sophomore Braeden MacVicar are the lone returners from last year's ball club. The Chanticleers are led by first-year head coach Justin Gray.
