December 17, 2024 | Volleyball
GREENVILLE, N.C. – Angeles Alderete, Kenzie Beckham, Ellie Pate and Lara Uyar have been named to the 2024 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team according to an announcement by the organization Tuesday.
Â
Student-athletes earn the distinction by compiling a 3.50-or-greater GPA in the classroom and playing in 90 percent (or starting at least 66 percent) of the team's matches.
Â
The quartet helped East Carolina (19-10, 11-5 AAC) to its second-straight postseason appearance in 2024 as the Pirates advanced to the National Invitational Volleyball Championship Super 16 round for the second consecutive season with a 3-1 win over Winthrop. ECU also secured a third-place finish in the American Athletic Conference standings – the program's highest since joining the league prior to the 2014 campaign.
Â
Alderete owns a 3.56 cumulative GPA as a marketing major. The AAC Preseason Player of the Year finished out her junior season with 1,130 kills and 990 digs, putting her 10 digs short of becoming the seventh student-athlete in school history to register 1,000 career kills and digs. Alderete logged 253 kills and 305 digs in 27 contests before suffering an injury in the conference tournament and paced the Pirates in double-doubles (10) while notching double-digit kills in 12 matches.
Â
Kenzie Beckham closed out her collegiate career with a 4.00 GPA and earned a bachelor's degree in business management a few days ago. She played in 103 matches over four seasons with East Carolina, racking up 872 digs and 283 assists as both a setter and defensive specialist/libero. Beckham also earned CSC Academic All-District honors in 2023.
Â
Ellie Pate holds a current 3.64 cumulative GPA as a public health major. The sophomore enjoyed a breakout 2024 season during which she paced the Pirates in both kills (292) and kills per set (2.78). Pate recorded double-digit kills in 14 matches, including a career-best 20 in ECU's five-set win over North Texas, while nailing down double-doubles against both Western Carolina and Winthrop.
Â
Uyar leaves the East Carolina volleyball program having compiled a 3.61 GPA as an economics major. She collected 695 digs in two years as a Pirate after notching 332 in a pair of seasons at Wichita State. Uyar led ECU with 348 digs this past campaign and registered double-digit digs in 18 matches – including three efforts of 21 or more.Â
