GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina women's basketball team is set to conclude its non-conference slate hosting the UNCW Seahawks at noon on Saturday. Tickets are still available for purchase and for fans unable to attend, the game will be available for streaming on ESPN+ with Evan Budrovich and Brittany Hoyt on the call.

Last Time Out
The Pirates stole a victory from the VCU Rams with a 48-46 triumph on Wednesday. Despite trailing for over 32 minutes of game time and by eight points with 5:49 remaining in the game, ECU roared back with their patented pressure defense. Four players came away with steals in the final five minutes of the game which resulted in the final quarter featuring five lead changes and four ties. The Pirates took the lead for good with a Journee McDaniel blocked shot set up a pair of Khia Miller free throws with 14.0 seconds remaining.

Scouring UNCW
The Seahawks enter with a 6-5 record after a thumping loss to Coastal Carolina last time out. For the year, the team has spread the wealth scoring, paced by Taylor Henderson's 12.6 points per game while Ali Zelaya contributes 9.5 points as well as a team-best 9.5 rebounds.

Series History
The Pirates and Seahawks have a long history dating back to their first meeting in 1978. ECU leads the series 32-23 overall, including a 2-0 record in the Kim McNeill era. The last time the teams met, in November 2022, it was an East Carolina victory 76-49 with three players scoring in double figures. Alexsia Rose led the way that day with 18 points, six steals and an 8-8 clip from the foul line. Danae McNeal and Bobbi Smith contributed 17 points, apiece.

With Defense Like This, Who Needs Scoring?
The Pirates did not have a player score in double figures on Wednesday. It was the first time that has happened since Dec. 5, 2020, in a loss to Duke, and was the first time that it has ever happened in a winning effort according to available records dating back to 1979-80.

Joyner was named Player of the Week on Monday after averaging 21.5 points, 13.5 rebounds, 3.0 blocks and 2.0 assists in two wins on the week.
