GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina women's basketball team is set to host the South Florida Bulls at 6 p.m. on Wednesday in Minges Coliseum. For fans unable to attend the game will be available for streaming on ESPN+ with Evan Budrovich and Derek Jordan on the call.
Last Time Out
The Pirates were stunned in the waning seconds by Memphis last time out. The Pirates led for 36:22; Memphis led for 28 seconds. But it was the 28 seconds that mattered as Alasia Smith's bucket with 9.4 seconds remaining gave the Tigers the victory after trailing by a dozen entering the final quarter. Playing shorthanded yet again, Amiya Joyner and Danae McNeal gave the Pirates everything they had with a 15-point, 20-rebound, six-assist outing for Joyner paired with a 28-point day for McNeal in the loss. The Pirates did turn the ball over 24 times in the game which proved critical to the final result as Memphis scored 27 points off of turnovers.
Scouting South Florida
The Bulls enter the game after a stunning loss to Florida Atlantic on home in their last contest, 67-55. Ordinarily the class of the American Athletic Conference, the Bulls have struggled a bit this season but do still hold a plus-.500 record at 15-12 and 7-7 in league play. Still, the two-headed beast of Romi Levy and Vittoria Blasigh have been phenomenal for South Florida, putting up 14.3 and 13.8 points per game each and both dishing over 50 assists on the year.
Series History
Bulls continue to lead the all-time series, 14-6, after getting the better of the Pirates in Tampa earlier this season. Danae McNeal led the Pirates with 25 points in the game.
An Historic Outing
Amiya Joyner put up 15 points and 20 rebounds against Memphis. Despite the loss, Joyner's day remains the eighth 20-rebound game in program history and the first in almost 20 years to the day when Courtney Willis went for 21 against TCU on Feb. 13, 2004. It was also Joyner's 7th career 15-rebound performance, tying Tonya Hargrove and Courtney Willis for fourth most in ECU history.
