
Pirates Sail Past Elon, 9-1

GREENVILLE, N.C. – Anna Sawyer went for 2-for-3 at the plate including hitting her first home run of the season in the fourth inning as East Carolina sailed by Elon, 9-1 in six innings, on Tuesday afternoon at Max R. Joyner Family Stadium.

The bats were hot for the Pirates (24-9, 2-7 AAC) as the team tallied 10 hits on the day.

After a slow first inning, the Pirates turned up the heat in the second, scoring their first two runs of the game. A sacrifice fly by Malea Rolle allowed Kaleigh Ayscue to score, followed by a run by Taylor Woodring to finish out the inning.

After Elon got on the board with a solo home run, ECU tacked on two more runs in the third frame on a Morgan Johnson RBI single to score Sawyer followed by an Ayscue sacrifice fly to score Emma Jackson.

The Pirates would go deep into their dugout in the latter innings of the game as Samantha Turnage and Kylee Schojan each notched a hit and Hannah Evans hit a single into right field that would score the game-ending run.

Jordan Hatch (10-4) picked up the win in the circle, allowing just one hit and tossing three strikeouts.

East Carolina is on the road this weekend to resume conference play when the Pirates visit Florida Atlantic beginning Thursday at 6 p.m. on ESPN+.
