GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina University graduates, Paul and Sybil Moody Trevisan, have demonstrated their unwavering commitment to their alma mater by making a generous $1 million investment in the Pirates Unite Campaign for Comprehensive Excellence, Pirate Club Executive Director Ryan Robinson announced today.
Â
The Trevisans' contribution will directly support the Dick and Sarah Bennett Baseball Building expansion project, one of several initiatives within the Pirates Unite Campaign aimed at enhancing the facilities and resources available to student-athletes.
Â
"East Carolina University and the athletics department are an important part of our family, and we are fortunate to give back to a place that means so much to us," Paul Trevisan said. "Both Sybil and I are thankful for our experiences at ECU which helped shape us to where we are today. We are hopeful our investment inspires others to look at different ways to support the Pirates."
Â
Paul Trevisan, a distinguished member of the ECU Athletics community, was elected to the ECU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2010 in recognition of his outstanding achievements as a swimmer during his time at the university. He graduated from ECU with a degree in physical and health education. His storied career included numerous varsity, pool and Southern Conference records in the 50-yard freestyle as well as helping establish six relay records. He was the 1973 Southern Conference 50 and 100-yard freestyle champion.
Â
Mrs. Sybil Moody Trevisan, also an ECU alumna, earned her degree in political science. The couple has two adult children, Kevin and Kristen, further cementing their ties to the ECU community. Kevin Trevisan is an ECU alum, having received a degree in business administration.
Â
"We extend our sincerest gratitude to Paul and Sybil for their extraordinary support and dedication to our university and athletics department," ECU Director of Athletics Jon Gilbert said. "As a former Pirate student-athlete, Paul understands and appreciates the commitment from our student-athletes. A gesture of this magnitude highlights the commitment to advancing the athletic programs and providing student-athletes with the resources they need to excel both on and off the field."
Â
"I'm excited about the future of ECU Baseball and ECU Athletics because of the unmatched support we receive from our generous donors," ECU Baseball Head Coach Cliff Godwin said. "Investing in our program means you are investing in our young men, and you want to see us succeed. We are so thankful for Paul and Sybil and their commitment to moving this project one step closer to the finish line."
The Trevisans' philanthropic spirit extends a long track record of support. The family previously established the Ray Scharf Swimming Endowment and participated in numerous Pirate Club campaigns, including the Second Century Campaign and the Southside Renovation project.
Â
"For nearly 30 years, Paul and Sybil have been loyal partners in the Pirate Club," Robinson said. "A commitment of this magnitude from this incredibly special family is inspiring, and we are grateful for their generosity. The impact of their investments over the years will be felt for generations to come."
Â
Launched in May 2022, the $60 million Pirates Unite Campaign is the most ambitious fundraising effort in Pirate Club history with critical funds being used to ensure a bright future for the Pirates by investing in the long-term health of the department. The collective impact of the ECU community, alumni, students, and friends have helped raise more than $31 million.
