Pirates Sweep UTSA On Dalton's Walk-Off, 4-3
April 07, 2024 | Softball
GREENVILLE, N.C. – Annie Kate Dalton hit a walk-off RBI single to push East Carolina past UTSA 4-3 and give the Pirates the series sweep on Sunday afternoon at Max R. Joyner Family Stadium.
Taylor Woodring continued her strong weekend with another home run for the Pirates (29-11, 6-9 AAC), who recorded their first sweep over a conference foe since 2021 against Memphis.
UTSA would jump out to a quick 3-0 lead after Erykah Guerrero hit a two-run blast over center field in the top of the third while the Pirates were still searching for their first hit of the game.
After two batters were hit by a pitch with no outs, Malea Rolle would hit a sacrifice fly to score Morgan Johnson and cut the run deficit to two.
ECU would continue its rally in the bottom of the sixth after Woodring's solo home run and a Logan Sutton single tied the game at 3-3 going into the seventh frame.
The Pirates would retire UTSA's three batters and Emma Jackson would hit a single to get the winning run on base. After a Woodring walk, Dalton sent a 1-0 pitch into left field to plate Jackson for her second walk-off winner of the season.
Taylor Apple (11-2) earned the complete game win with nine strikeouts tossed.
