Pirates Shut Down UAB In AAC First Round, 4-0
May 08, 2024 | Softball
Wichita, Kan. – Anna Sawyer went 2-for-3 with two RBI at the plate and Kanisha Anderson hit an inside-the-park home run as East Carolina defeated UAB 4-0 in the first round of the American Athletic Conference Softball Championship on Wednesday at Wilkins Stadium.
Annie Kate Dalton added an RBI single that gave the Pirates (38-18, 13-14 AAC) the game's first run in the top of the sixth inning. The win marked the first time ECU has advanced in the AAC Softball Championship since the 2019 season.
Emma Jackson would lead off with her 24th double of the season and would advance to third after a ground out but the Pirates next two batters struck out swinging to strand the game's potential first run at third.Â
Both teams would breeze through the next four innings before the Pirates would break through with singles from Anderson and Morgan Johnson to set up Dalton's RBI single.
Dalton also advanced to second on the throw and Sawyer would hit a two RBI single to extend the Pirates' lead to 3-0 and Anderson would add the finishing touches with her inside-the-park home run in the top of the seventh.
Addy Bullis (14-5) picked up the complete game win in the circle and also reached the 300-career strikeout mark for her entire collegiate career with her three strikeouts tossed.
