NEW ORLEANS, La. – With just two weekends remaining in the regular season, No. 6 East Carolina looks to move closer to clinching its fifth consecutive American Athletic Conference regular season title when it takes on Tulane inside Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.

The Pirates (37-10, 16-5 AAC) currently lead UTSA by three games atop the league standings with the Roadrunners set to host South Florida. A sweep of the Green Wave would secure at minimum a share of the crown regardless of what UTSA does in San Antonio.

ECU hosted No. 9 Duke Tuesday before a Clark-LeClair Stadium crowd of 5,438 and dropped a 5-2 decision to the Blue Devils. Justin Wilcoxen rapped out a pair of base hits and scored two runs, but the Pirates were limited to a collective season-low four hits.

Entering the weekend, East Carolina leads the AAC in batting average (.315), earned run average (3.56) and fielding percentage (.978). Individually, Carter Cunningham paces the circuit in batting average (.399), slugging percentage (.699), on base percentage (.491), runs scored (60) and OPS (1.190).

The Pirates also slot among the national leaders in several statistical categories, checking in at third in WHIP (1.19) and earned run average as well as fourth in fewest hits allowed per nine innings (7.29), sixth in strikeout-to-walk ratio (3.15) and ninth in strikeouts per nine innings (10.9). Scheduled Friday starter Trey Yesavage tops the country in WHIP (0.80) while also ranking second in victories (10), third in earned run average (1.69) fourth in strikeouts (124) and fewest hits allowed per nine innings (4.70) and sixth in strikeouts per nine innings (14.95). Cunningham is 23rd in batting average and 24th in total hits (73).

ECU is 13-6 in true road games this season, sweeping Memphis the last time it traveled away from Greenville in conference play. The Pirates are 6-3 in league road affairs.

The Green Wave (26-23, 10-11 AAC) lost two of three to Memphis at home last weekend and are tied with Wichita State and Florida Atlantic for fourth place in the conference standings. Brady Marget is hitting a squad-high .339 for a Tulane offense that owns a .277 batting average, 97 doubles, 10 triples and 67 home runs. The Green Wave pitching staff sports a 5.15 earned run average with 410 strikeouts and 200 walks in 432.0 innings of work.
