
Quartet Of ECU Golfers Earn Cobalt Academic Honors

NORMAN, Okla. – East Carolina men's golfers Lucas Augustsson, Philip Linberg Bondestad, Tyler DeChellis and Ethan Hall have been named to the 2023-24 Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars the organization announced Thursday. This is the second-straight scholastic honor for DeChellis, while the others are first-time selections.

Augustsson became the eighth player in program history to earn multiple all-conference honors following his sophomore campaign. He appeared in all 12 events recording seven Top 10 finishes which included a pair of tournament wins. Augustsson posted a team-best 71.29 scoring average (second best single-season average) and is tied for the most career wins in the program with four. In the classroom, he has complied a 3.97 cumulative GPA in entrepreneurship earning Dean's List honors in the fall of 2023 and Chancellor's list accolades in the spring of 2024. He was also earned CSC Academic All-District honors in 2024 and was named to the American Athletic All-Academic Team for the second consecutive year.

Bondestad participated in 12 events recording five Top 10 placements including a pair of Top 5 finishes and sported a team second-best 72.63 stroke average, which is tied for 13th on the single-season charts. His best career outing came during the spring of 2024 at the Cutter Creek Intercollegiate shooting personal low 208 (8-under) finishing in sole possession of second place. Bondestad, who owns a 3.84 cumulative GPA in business management, earned Dean's List honors in both the fall and spring semesters. He was also earned CSC Academic All-District honors in 2024 and was named to the American Athletic All-Academic Team for the second consecutive year.

DeChellis, a three-time AAC All-Academic Team selection, is currently pursuing his undergraduate degree in management information systems while sporting a 3.53 cumulative GPA. As a junior, he appeared in 10 events posting a 74.55 stroke average and recorded a pair of Top 10 placements. His best finish came in the I40 Cup where he shots a 4-under par 138 that included rounds of 73 and 65 – the latter a career-low score. He followed that with a share of eighth place at the 2024 AAC Championships shooting a 1-under 209 with all three rounds of 70 or better (70-70-69).

Hall, who earned a certificate in business analytics as a graduate transfer, wrapped up his collegiate career with the Pirates participating in nine events while sporting a 73.85 scoring average. In his lone year at East Carolina, he recorded four Top 20 finishes which included a share of fifth at the I40 Cup following a 6-under score of 136 (69-67). At the ECU Intercollegiate, he posted a 3-over par 219 (73-72-71) for a share of eighth place.

To be eligible for Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar nomination, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically in NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their associate's degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they must participate in 50% of their team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 in NCAA Division I, under 78.0 in NCAA Division II, under 79.0 in NCAA Division III, under 78.0 in NAIA, and under 77.0 in NJCAA, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at their college or university.
