Last Time Out
The Pirates kept it rolling with a 2-1 win on the road in their American Athletic Conference opener at Temple. Caitlen-Star Dolan Boodram got on the board first for the team on the end of a nice through pass from Emma Sheehan before Samantha Moxie fired home a rocket of a left footed shot with just 25 seconds remaining in the first half. Temple was able to draw nearer in the early phases of the second half but the Pirates held firm to keep the Owls from leveling the score. Maeve English got her 74th career start in goal, making three saves.
Scouting JMU
The Dukes record may not be where they want it, but don't let it deceive, their schedule has been no cake walk either. Compare to the Pirates previous opponent who lost to La Salle 5-1, JMU earned a draw against La Salle at 3-3. Ariana Reyes, remarkably the player who scored the Dukes' game winning goal against ECU back in 2021, is tied with Sophia Verrecchia for the team lead in goals with two apiece—Reyes has two assists as well. Defensively, Sofia DeCerb has played every minute in goal with 31 saves and 11 goals allowed on the year.
Series History
The Pirates and Dukes have met nine times over the years with JMU holding a 7-1-1 edge all-time, including winning the last three in the series. The most recent meeting came in September 2021 when the Dukes took a 1-0 win in double overtime with Ariana Reyes scoring the game winning goal. Maeve English was making her 21st career start at the time and made three saves in the loss.
Highlight Reel
Samantha Moxie scored her first goal of the season of Temple and did so in highlight fashion:

On a Run
The Pirates have started the season unbeaten through seven games for the first time ever. The seven-game streak is also tied for the longest (2022) since a 13-game streak in 2008.
Iron Woman
Abby Sowa still has not come out of a match for the Pirates since Oct. 17, 2021. She's played 4,350 consecutive minutes, or two full seasons and 48 full games without coming out.
Major Milestone
With her first save against Temple, Maeve English became the fourth player in program history to record 250 career saves.
