Pirate Club Day at Women's Basketball Postponed
Due to the impending weather, Pirate Club Day at Women's Basketball has been postponed to next Wednesday, January 29. The Pirates will take on the Wichita State Shockers beginning at 6:00 p.m. All Pirate Club members will earn five priority points when they attend the game. To earn your points, please check in at the Pirate Club table, located on the lower concourse during halftime of the game. The first 300 fans through the gates will receive a Pirate Club t-shirt. Tickets for the contest can be purchased here.
Last Time Out
The Pirates battled back to erase a first-half deficit but were unable to finish the deal as Rice pulled away late on Saturday. Anzhané Hutton paced three Pirates in double figures with 16 points as well as a game-high nine rebounds. The team managed to take the lead on multiple occasions in the third quarter but as they have a knack for doing, Rice hit the big shots down the stretch and finished the game on a 7-0 run for the victory.
Scouting Temple
The Owls enter the game at 11-6 with a terrific 5-1 record in league play, having won three-straight games entering Wednesday's contest. Tiarra East still poses a particular challenge to opponents with her 14.6 points and 5.1 rebounds per game while Tarriyonna Gary, who lit up the Pirates for 26 points in the teams' first meeting of the season, contributes 11.4 per game.
Series History
The Owls pushed their series lead to 13-4 with a win in Philadelphia earlier in the season and Temple continues to have the Pirates' number. Jayla Hearp led the team in scoring with 19 points along with her six steals while Anzhané Hutton contributed her first double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Weekly Recognition
Devin Hagemann was named Freshman of the Week by the American Athletic Conference for the second week in a row on Monday after scoring 16 points with six assists in the win at Charlotte and adding 10 more points in the game at Rice. Hagemann is the first ECU player to record back-to-back Freshman of the Week honors since MyMy Joyner who won the award four weeks in a for in February 2023.
