
Gilreath's Triple-Double Helps Lead Pirates To Sweep Over Tulane

GREENVILLE, N.C. – Taryn Gilreath recorded the second triple-double in program history as East Carolina swept aside Tulane (25-21, 25-20, 25-22) in American Conference action on Sunday afternoon inside Minges Coliseum.
Gilreath's historic performance consisted of 14 assists, 11 digs and 10 kills with the latter stat being a career-high. The other triple-double recorded in program history was in 2018 by Shelby Martin (10 kills, 14 digs and 34 assists).Â
Sydney Buchanan added 10 kills for the Pirates (9-6, 1-3 American) who picked up their first league win of the season and snapped a five-match skid.
Avery Burks led Tulane (9-6, 1-3 American) with 12 kills.
The Pirates pulled away from the Green Wave in the first set, turning a 14-14 tie into a 19-14 lead. Back-to-back kills from Burks pulled Tulane within a point at 21-20 but Katie Schuele's kill gave the Pirates a two-point edge. Tulane once again got within a point but the Pirates closed out the set on a 3-0 run.
The second set was tightly contested all the way down the final points until a 4-1 ECU scoring run gave the Pirates a 23-19 lead and ECU was able to close out the set on back-to-back points with one coming on a Green Wave attack error and the other on a Buchanan kill.
Tulane was in control heading into the middle of the third set until a 7-0 run from the Pirates gave the home team a 19-14 lead and flipped the momentum. The Green Wave were never able to get any closer than two points as Buchanan closed the set again and the match with a kill.Â
