Last Time Out
The Pirates trailed by as many as 18 points in an 84-68 loss at High Point on Sunday. The team made a run at a comeback, getting as close as seven, but the climb was a bit too steep to get all the way back. High Point started the game on a 19-2 run, forcing a full lineup change for the Pirates midway through the first quarter. ECU managed to get within 10 a few times before halftime but saw the hosts boost their margin to as many as 18 points after the break. The Pirates got within seven points in the fourth quarter and even got a look to cut it to five near the midway point of the final frame but were never able to get that next bucket to truly make it a game.
Â
Anzhané Hutton finished the game with 18 points and 13 rebounds for her 12th career double-double. She also blocked two shots while making a career high three shots from behind the arc, her first career multi-three game. Kennedy Fauntleroy scored all of her 17 points in the second half and Jayla Hearp was the one other Pirate in double figures with her 13 points in the game.
Â
Scouting Old Dominion
The Monarchs enter the game with a 3-1 record after downing William & Mary on the road on Sunday and have won three in a row after a season opening loss to UMass. On the year, three players are averaging double-figure scoring with Simaru Fields leading the way at 14.0 per game. Simone Cunningham is also scoring in double figures to go with a team leading 8.3 rebounds per game. As a team, Old Dominion is outscoring their opponents by nearly 20 points per game with positive margins on the boards and in turnovers. The team ranks 19th in blocked shots and 24th in steaks nationally and are a remarkable fifth in the nation in rebounds per game.
Â
Series History
For younger fans, the 43-10 series lead for Old Dominion might be confusing, but the Monarchs used to be a national power. They are two-time AIAW National Champions and one-time NCAA National Champions with all-time greats like (former ECU head coach) Anne Donovan and Nancy Lieberman—for whom the national power forward of the year award is named—and Tracy Claxton, to single out just a few. 43 of the 53 meetings came before the turn of the millennium, including a 29-game win streak for ODU. But recently, the Pirates have gotten things going in the series with a 2-1 record in the last three, including a 59-58 overtime win last season. Amiya Joyner led ECU with 27 points and 17 rebounds in the game, including the game-winning basket with six seconds left.
Â

At the Helm Â
2025-26 is the Pirates' seventh under the tutelage of Kim McNeill. The program has an 89-94 record under her leadership with a real shot to move over .500 this season.
Â
Reclaim
Each season the Pirates choose an important word, meaningful to the team, to put on the back of their practice jerseys. In 2025-26, the team chose the word "Reclaim", signifying the group's goals after a turbulent 2024-25 of returning to their roots as a defensive minded team, getting back to their standards as role models in the community and striving for excellence in the classroom.
