GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina continues its late-season homestand and honors its three seniors on Sunday afternoon when the Pirates welcome in-state rival Charlotte for a nationally televised contest inside Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum.
The game is slated to tip off at noon and will be televised on ESPNU with Matt Schumacker (play-by-play) and Terrence Oglesby (analyst) on the call. Pirate fans can also tune into 107.9 WNCT FM, 94.3 The Game or download the IBX app to hear Jim Szoke call the action.
Prior to the game, ECU will recognize its three seniors in Cam Hayes, C.J. Walker and RJ Felton. The team will also recognize former players in attendance at halftime.
The Pirates are led in scoring by Preseason All-AAC First Team guard RJ Felton's 18.5 points per night (4th in AAC) and the senior also leads the team in rebounding with 6.9 rebounds per game. C.J. Walker adds 17.9 points per contest (5th in AAC) on 52.9 percent shooting from the floor and 6.7 rebounds while Jordan Riley averages 14.3 ppg, 5.8 rpg and a league-best two steals per game to round out ECU's top scorers. The trio of Felton, Walker, Riley makes up 66 percent of the Pirates' point production. Felton (517 points) and Walker (500 points) are the only Pirate teammates in program history to both score 500 or more points in the same season.
Last Time Out
RJ Felton tied his season-high with 30 points, including shooting 5-for-5 from distance, as East Carolina rallied to defeat UTSA, 96-89, in overtime on Sunday afternoon inside Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum. With the win last Sunday, the Pirates recorded their eighth AAC victory of the season, marking the most AAC wins in a season since joining the league.
Felton's Pirate Legacy
Felton enters Sunday afternoon third all-time in scoring at East Carolina as the senior currently has 1,671 career points and is one of only four Pirates to score 1,600 or more points in their East Carolina career. He is 154 points away from the school's all-time Division I leading scorer, Lester Lyons, who scored 1,825 points from 1990-94. Bobby Hodges stands as the Pirates' all-time leading scorer, scoring 2,018 points at East Carolina. Felton is also one of only five players to hit 200 or more threes in his Pirate career and his one of only six ECU players to have 130 or more steals in their Pirate career. He is currently 62nd in career scoring among all active Division I players.
Scouting the 49ers
Charlotte comes into Sunday having lost its last game on the road to Tulane, 78-64, on Wednesday night. The 49ers have dropped three of their last four and are 1-10 on the road this season. Nik Graves leads Charlotte in scoring with 16.9 points per game (7th in AAC) and the guard is one of the best in country at getting to the free throw line with 6.8 attempts (21st in NCAA) while converting 76 percent of those attempts. As a team, Charlotte is second in the American in free throw attempts per game with 23.3 (20th in NCAA).
