GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina redshirt junior diver Frida Zuniga Guzman has qualified for the NCAA Diving Championships which begins Wednesday, March 19 in Federal Way, Wash. The first diver in program history to appear in the NCAA Diving Championships, Guzman is one of 76 divers to compete in both the 1-meter and platform diving events.
Â
Guzman, the lone diver from the American Athletic Conference in the NCAA Diving Championships, registered qualifying scores by placing ninth in the 1-meter (574.55) and platform (510.35) at the NCAA Zone Diving Championships securing a spot at the NCAA Championships.
Â
On the season, the five-time AAC Diver of the Week set the AAC Championship and ECU platform record with 310.80 points and claimed top honors in the event. She was also a medalist in the 3-meter (second place/332.70) and 1-meter (third/285.60) dives becoming the first Pirate to medal in all events in The American. Guzman has notable victories this year over Georgia Tech, NC State, Virginia Tech, Arizona State, Tennessee, Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, and Penn.Â
Â
Currently, she holds two of the three AAC Championship records (3-meter in 2024, platform in 2025) and a year ago was named AAC Diver of the Meet.
Â
"I cannot express how proud we are of Frida," ECU Head Coach Matthew Jabs said. "She has worked extremely hard to reach this point and to be the first ever female diver at ECU to make the NCAA championships, is truly awesome. We compete in one of if not the most difficult zones in the country for diving, which is deep in SEC/ACC country. So, for her to earn one of the few slots allotted to our zone is special. Coach Ryan (McIntire) has does tremendous job with all our divers, and I'm equally excited for him as well."
Â
Diving action for Guzman begins on Thursday, March 20 with 1-meter diving trials at 3:15 p.m. (ET) with finals beginning at 9 p.m. (ET). The platform diving trials will take place on Saturday, March 22 at 3 p.m. (ET) and the finals will be held at 9 p.m. (ET). Â All events at the NCAA Championships will be streamed on ESPN+.
